Does “treatment as prevention” equal “I want bareback sex”?

“If someone is not comfortable about using TASP as a HIV prevention we will discuss other strategies”. That’s good of him! No thought about other STIs that condoms protect against. He is very confident that he is undetectable and will remain so. However this is the big lie of TASP, status CAN change. Many HIV positive men who continue to bareback are then reinfected with a strain of HIV that is resistant to their medication. As a result their viral load increases and they become infectious.

So when someone says they are “undetectable” are they really if they have barebacked many different partners? Are they simply lying to get unprotected sex? Safe sex is about taking responsibility yourself for your own sexual health not abdicating to someone else. “Trust” won’t save you from HIV. Remember this guy’s HIV prevention “strategy” didn’t work. The simple answer is “wear a condom”. These bareback obsessed gay men will simply leave you alone as they are selfish individuals who demand the sex THEY want. You don’t even come into the equation.
